BIERGTalk International Seminar Series. Biorefinery design for microbial oil production from industrial food waste.

Activity: Participating in or organising an event › Organising a conference, workshop, ...

Description

Speaker: Dr Miguel Carmona

Abstract: Current environmental issues urge the need of renewable and sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, mainly in the transport sector. Biodiesel may one day replace diesel with an ecofriendly economically efficient process, -if the raw material employed is low-cost and derived from sustainable sources not competing with food or land use. Waste management is one of the most significant challenges of EU policies for the coming decades. The traditional method of waste management is not adapted to meet future energy and environmental requirements. A food waste-based biorefinery allows new approaches in waste recovery, while improving industrial processes.
