BIERGTalk International Seminar Series. Sustainable Technologies in development: the case of circular plastics and beyond…

Activity: Participating in or organising an event › Organising a conference, workshop, ...

Description

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Shiju Raveendran

Abstract: More than ever a switch from the oil-based economy to better alternatives is desired. Join us for an exciting seminar exploring cutting-edge research beyond sustainable engineering. This talk presents recent advances from the EU-funded PLASTICE project, where hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is being developed to transform mixed municipal plastic waste, predominantly HDPE and LDPE, into fresh monomers, including ethylene and propylene, suitable for new polymer production for plastics. Reactor scale-up design and process optimisation will also be highlighted. The second part showcases innovative, noble-metal-free catalysts capable of converting CO₂ into valuable products. Together, these breakthroughs offer promising pathways toward a circular economy. This seminar is open to all students, researchers, practitioners and academics.
