    Abstract

    The history of Chatham Dockyard to the First World War, relating its importance to the Royal Navy and, as the premier shipyard of the Royal Navy, its importance to the industrial revolution. Also covers the expansion of the Medway towns to accommodate the skilled and unskilled labour brought in to take production from raw materials to end product.
