Education for sustainability in early childhood education: sustainability transformation through collaboration

    Abstract

    Kemp and Bolshaw present a newly validated Masters module in Early Childhood Education for Sustainability as a case study of sustainability education in practice. Postgraduate students and their tutors developed individual action research projects which contributed to one of four student-generated categories: Awareness Raising, Development of Resources, Change to Setting Environment, and Issue-based Interventions. Analysis of these projects highlights the importance of foregrounding educational purpose and of prioritizing participation in sustainability education both for early childhood students and the children and families they work with
