Abstract
(How Change Agencies Can Affect Our Path Towards a Singularity) uses the perspective of ‘change agencies‘ to analyse how agents (from researchers through entrepreneurs to government) can determine the direction of future technologies and, especially, AGIs. The chapter discusses the general behaviour of change agents towards technological research from a social and economic perspective and argues that the interactions of key change agencies will determine the future path towards a ‘singularity event‘ or possibly an ‘anti-singularity event’. Thus the chapter argues that it is important to understand the fundamental behaviours and motivations of change agencies in technology development as this provides a mechanism to ensure that if, and when, a singularity occurs, it can be controlled and utilised for positive social and economic benefits.
