Abstract
This book is a historical and philosophical survey of the educational thought of John Henry Newman. It is based on original historical documents. The philosophical treatment of Newman’s thought in this book covers both the educational controversies he was involved in together with his practical educational achievements. The book explores the religious and moral dimensions of Newman’s thought and links these with his view of a liberal education. Newman’s idea of ‘vocational education’, together with the implications of his ideas for contemporary education, are examined in this study.
