Abstract
Children's literature- a story about friendship, illness and courage to tell children when they are undergoing treatment in hospital or when they are poorly at home.
1000 copies of this book were distributed to children at Birmingham Children's Hospital (NHS) and the Heartlands Hospital Paediatrics, Heart of England Foundation NHS Trust for the purposes of the 'Bird Island' theatre project for hospitalised children. The story was performed by professional actors bedside using puppetry, singing and artistic installations. Hospital teachers used the storybook to follow up the performance with children on the hospital wards and engage them with tuition during their treatment.
