Abstract
Shakespeare’s audience was always liable to be guided by the particular expectations and decorums that attached to the settings it found itself faced with or used its “imaginary forces” to summon. Yet these are not always clear. What follows is an attempt to tease those that pertain to Measure for Measure out of that difficult, but rewarding, late comedy.
