Mini FM transmitter-building workshop

    Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

    Abstract

Led by artist Magz Hall, participants will construct a simple bespoke transmitter on forest wood, and begin broadcasting their own material.

The session will draw on the DIY processes that formed the basis of the ‘mini FM’ movement in Japan and Italy in the 1970s. Ultra-low wattage of the transmitters circumvented public broadcasting laws, enabling communities to build their own autonomous local broadcasting networks. The workshop invites participants to consider how these pioneering experiments in radical social networking might inform our interaction with one another in contemporary post-digital society.

This workshop is open to individuals over the age of 16 living or studying in Southwark. This event is free to attend, but places are limited.
