Abstract
Night Visit is the result of year-long residency at The Swedenborg Society (Bloomsbury, London) researching, composing, and creating a spoken-word multimedia performance. It is a collaboration that aims to explore how voice, physical presence and narrative combines with composed, improvised and spatially diffused sound and moving image. Night visit was premiered as part of The Bloomsbury Festival in October 2012.
Night Visit is a hybrid multimedia storytelling event, that was written by storyteller Sally Clayton, composed in quadraphonic surround by Panos Ghikas, video-edited by Fotios Begklis and finally toured in the UK and Europe. with the support of Arts Council England.
Night Visit merges biography and myth with history and dream. Panos Ghikas surrounds the audience in dark and vibrant sounds, improvising live on acoustic and electronic instruments. Luminous images are manipulated live by filmmaker Fotios Begklis, suggesting fleeting presences and triggering memories. Together they conjure-up a séance of spoken word, film, and music,an immersive world, where sound and speech fracture and fuse, narrative and noise cut-up and coalesce, evoking voices of the past.
