Abstract
This article discusses the life and work of the convert Victor von Carben, a contemporary of Johannes Pfefferkorn. The main argument of the paper is that there is a close link between patronage and conversion - a successful conversion from Judaism to Christianity in the late Middle Ages/early modern period depended on the support of a reliable social network. The articles also explores the representation and staging of a successful conversion, taking a number of different media into account.
