Review of periodical literature published in 2018: (iii) 1500–1700

Research output: Contribution to journalLiterature reviewpeer-review

Abstract

Article literature on the early modern economic and social history of Britain seemed focused in 2018 on filthy lucre, both the getting and the having. More than a fifth of the articles here surveyed grapple with histories of money and coinage, trade networks and traders, and the development of commercial economies at both the micro and macro levels. Migration, occupational history, environmental history, popular culture, and notable debates over the nature and extent of early modern farming and industrialization also surfaced in the 2018 survey, alongside rich examples of religious and gender history.
