Digital Window Gallery: Land Art 01
09 Feb 2022 - 20 Feb 2022
Open Eye Gallery

MELANIE KING / ALMUDENA ROMERO / LOUIS QUAIL

Showing on our Digital Window Gallery as part of LOOK Climate Lab. The exhibiting artists are part of Land Art Collective & Agency, read more about their individual work here: https://landartagency.com

Land Art agency champions the work of photographers who are passionate about creating work through sustainable practices. The work they share with photographers on their roster includes commercial commissions as well as opportunities to deliver workshops and talks for art and educational institutions. Land Art collective explores new ways to engage the wider community, share the work of prominent environmental artists, and open opportunities for those from all backgrounds to take part in the climate conversation.

According to the Climate Central app , areas of the UK are likely to be affected by rising tides. In this project, I have focused on areas of Kent which are vulnerable to sea level rise. Thanet in particular used to be an island, and is likely to become an island again in the coming decades.

Submerged Landscapes is an ongoing project where I document the affected areas before they are submerged, using the materiality of the sea within the production of the work. To produce these images, I have used plant based film developer (seaweed: bladderwrack, serrated wrack, sea spinach, alexander) anthotypes made from sea spinach and fixative made from seawater.
