    Abstract

The film Unobtainable Dreams explores the private space of a recently retired architect. Within his collecting room he surrounds himself with his numerous small collections of Meccano kits, paraphernalia, vinyl records, Eagle annuals, fairground toys, model military vehicles and books. At first glance one quickly notes the order, categorisation and display of all the objects the room has to offer. These collections of toys and paraphernalia act as a personal museum in which memories of childhood can be easily discovered. The room documents the collector’s nostalgia for his youth and the reverie that can be found through collecting.
