Abstract
According to Reijnders (2022), we need to move beyond media tourism as situated. I contend that sometimes, places of imagination come to us. The setting of films places seem to anchor landscapes, but what if the anchor is raised? This paper assesses the work of Philip Pullman in the form of affective media tourism. The work employs semi-structured interviews with Oxford tour guides and also ethnographic observations taken from a guided tour to Oxford in 2021. Parallel worlds which, by definition, do not otherwise meet, must hinge themselves together spontaneously. They are inchoate, waiting to reveal themselves. Media tourism can happen through atmosphere, a travelling of narrative space to you. But this depends on your being tuned to your environment. Then you don't find stories, they find you.
