Abstract
Book chapter on Zakes Mda, one of Southern Africa’s most respected, innovative and audacious playwright, artist, poet and novelist. The chapter discusses some Mda's seminal plays including "And the Girls in their Sunday Dresses"; "The Final Dance"; "The Mother of All Eating"; "You Fool, How Can the Sky Fall?"; and "The Bells of Amersfoort". It is part of a volume on Contemporary South African theatre that considers the variety of theatre forms, and the work of the major playwrights and theatre makers producing work in democratic South Africa.
