Alcohol electronic interventions: exploring factors that affect engagement and drinking-related intentions in university student populations

    Abstract

    This thesis is presented in a series of chapters that start with an introduction presenting an overview of the literature into student alcohol use and E-interventions (Electronic interventions), with underlying theory. Following on from this chapter 2 comprises of a meta-analysis of the effectiveness of E-interventions. Chapter 3 summarises a focus group study with university students on their views of university drinking culture and then evaluating different E-interventions. Chapters 4 and 5 outline two studies into the effectiveness of different health messages in influencing university students’ intentions to change their drinking. Chapter 6 summarises the findings of the empirical work and relates back to previously mentioned research. Chapter 2 has been published in a quantitative research journal and presented at an academic conference.
